Aurora Chamber Board
Endorses Dissolution of Election Commission

At a special meeting of the Aurora Regional Chamber Board of Directors, the Board voted to support the March 20 referendum for the dissolution of the Aurora Election Commission.

The AEC serves the residents of Aurora, excluding the growing portion in DuPage County. Created in 1934, the purpose was to allow the population of Aurora – at the
time, entirely in Kane County and estimated at approximately 46,500 – an opportunity to register and to vote locally.

Feb. 2: Wear Red to Show Support for Women’s Health

Monday, January 22nd, 2018

The first Friday of February is National Go Red for Women Day, when we encourage folks to wear red as a way to show support for women’s heart health. This year, February 2 is the date, and it’s a great way to kick off National Heart Month.

It is no coincidence that National Heart Month is celebrated during February: The heart is the very symbol of the month’s most celebrated holiday, Valentine’s Day. We know that heart disease is the leading cause of death in Kane County, which is why the Health Department’s Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) identifies chronic disease as one of the major threats to community health and well-being.

According to the American Heart Association, heart disease and stroke cause 1 in 3 deaths among women each year, killing approximately one woman every 80 seconds. That’s why we say “Go red for women!” Don’t forget to make your heart health a priority. Schedule your prevention check-up so your doctor can measure blood pressure, check cholesterol and look for signs of heart disease, stroke and other illnesses.

Heart disease doesn’t affect all women alike, and the warning signs for women aren’t the same in men. What’s more, these facts only begin to scratch the surface. There are several misconceptions about heart disease in women, and they could be putting you at risk. The American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement advocates for more research and swifter action for women’s heart health for this very reason.
