Leadership at Kluber has eagerly planned the firm’s expansion into downtown Chicago to better serve its growing clientele in the city. Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois to Open New Resource Center in Oswego

Tuesday, October 8th, 2019

Oswego, IL – Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois (GSNI) plans to open a new resource center at 3425 Orchard Road in Oswego. The organization has sold its current building at 200 New Bond St. in Sugar Grove and hopes to be operating out of its new location in early 2020. The new center is part of the organization’s ongoing strategy to create Girl Scout locations in the northern Illinois region—in Freeport, Lake Zurich, Rock Falls, Rockford, and South Elgin—with a modern, vibrant store, meeting space for staff, and increased visibility and convenience for families and volunteers.

“This new location near the corner of Route 34 and Orchard Road is near major retailers, like Jewel, and offers over 2,300 square feet for us to effectively serve girls and their families,” says GSNI CEO Fiona Cummings. “We’re excited to invest in Oswego, since we’ve seen how the population is growing, and the community is thriving!” The new center will share space with neighboring retailers, salons, and restaurants.

At the updated, Girl Scout-branded location, members and visitors will be able to visit the Girl Scout store, join or renew their membership, get their questions answered, book activities, and have meetings—all while running errands and managing their day efficiently! The organization expects to continue to serve girls and their families and grow its presence and membership by being highly visible, relevant, and accessible in the community. For more information on this and all other GSNI locations, please visit www.girlscoutsni.org.

We’re Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois

We believe every girl can change the world. With us, Girl Scouts develop the independence and confidence to guide their own lives and build a better world. We put girls in the driver’s seat and encourage them to customize their own experience. With programs focused on the outdoors, career and interest exploration, travel and global community, and practical life skills, in addition to community service projects, every girl can unlock her full potential and be amazing!

We serve 16 counties including parts or all of Boone, Carroll, Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Jo Daviess, Kane, Kendall, Lake, LaSalle, Lee, McHenry, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside, and Winnebago. To volunteer, reconnect, donate, or join, visit www.girlscoutsni.org or call 844-GSNI-4-ME (844-476-4463).

Media Request:

When writing about Girl Scouts, we respectfully request the phrase “Girl Scouts” be used in every reference, as opposed to “scout/scouts” or “scouting”. This is in line with the Girl Scout brand and registered trademark and helps clarify our identity as separate from any other organization.

Join us for a very relevant discussion addressing how effective sales performers make use of resources such as solid sales processes, current application of technology, and quality content. Let’s discuss together how this rapidly changing business environment is impacting the sales profession and how we can capitalize on these changes.
Salespeople are certainly making more use of tech-based tools such as the Internet, mobile phones and social media. The question is to what degree do we actually use these tools to work through our sales process? Are we leveraging readily available technology as much as we are able?

The presenter of this discussion is Randy Meier:
Randy Meier has 15 years of sales experience ranging from inside sales, territory development, key account management, business development management and sales management. Randy is currently serving in the role of VP of Sales at Synergy Systems. Synergy Systems is a 40-year-old Systems Integrator focused on Industrial Combustion processes. Randy has also completed an MBA and a B.S. Degree in Business Management from Aurora University.
In this session Randy will address the following practices of:
• Better utilizing common tech-tools to sell more effectively.
• Utilizing technology more directly into the sales process.
• Determining how sales enablement can help provide improved results.
• Providing salespeople with the resources that buyers request.
• Having useful content for salespeople that can be shared to buyers.

This sales discussion will be interactive with a different live dynamic where the value is the room.
It will be an excellent opportunity to learn from one another. Don’t miss this session.

Please RSVP. Space is limited. For more information contact info@aurorachamber.com
or call 630-256-3182.

Women in Leadership Roles

Tuesday, April 30th, 2019

Women as leaders – something I’ve spent time thinking about recently, and as one of the latest participants of the Leadership Academy, something that remains on my mind.
I was pleased to see that this year’s Leadership Academy has a larger number of women participating than men, although it shouldn’t be surprising – there are more women in the workforce than ever before. Unfortunately, more women in the workforce doesn’t actually translate to more women in leadership roles. Even in my predominately-female populated profession, men still proportionately hold more leadership positions.

What is holding women back from reaching leadership positions? Beyond sex discrimination, there are women still working in hostile work environments, facing negative stereotypes about women as leaders, as well as facing whatever implicit biases about women that exist.

How many of us have heard: “Don’t take it personally,” or “Why are you getting emotional about this” or some more subtle version of these statements? How many times have you worried, even in the tiniest way, that you are coming across as too aggressive, too “angry”; that if you had been born male, no one would have said those things to you and you would not have thought that of yourself? I’m fortunate that in my career, I’ve worked for and with women who have been supportive of me and my professional growth. But, I have it easier; I’m a white woman; women of color are far less fortunate than I am.

I don’t know the answer to how we combat what centuries of history has built, but maybe a good starting point would be to be more mindful. Be mindful of the choices we make when choosing someone for a leadership role; be mindful about what we say and how we say it; be mindful about to whom you provide professional support; be mindful when recruiting in your places of employment.
Just, be more mindful.

Henning to Step Down for New Role

Tuesday, April 23rd, 2019

Andy Guzauskas, board chair for the Aurora Regional Chamber, has announced that Joseph Henning, IOM, CAE, president and CEO, has resigned his position to accept a similar role out of state.

“While the board and I are sad to lose Joe,” Guzauskas adds, “we appreciate the leadership and passion for the community that Joe has exhibited during the 14 years he  served the chamber. We absolutely wish him the best in his new role.”

“The opportunity to serve the Aurora Regional Chamber, its membership, and the community for the past 14 years has been the professional experience of a lifetime,” Henning states. “I am thankful for the personal and professional growth this organization and its leadership has allowed me.”

Among the accomplishments of his tenure, the chamber reports:

  • The chamber was named Illinois Chamber of the Year by the Illinois Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives;
  • It achieved consecutive five-star accreditation from the U.S. Chamber Foundation in 2012 and 2017;
  • It added programs and services to provide benefit to members;
  • It urged the establishment of a public-private partnership (Invest Aurora) to spearhead economic development efforts;
  • It coordinated collaborations with education, business, and government to combine resources and reduce duplication of services; and
  • It established workforce development priorities to include the voice of employers.

“Workforce development and education attainment have long been a passion of mine,” Henning states. “Working with educational institutions and employers to identify opportunities and find solutions to our employers’ needs continues to be one of the most exciting experiences.”

From the established Pathways to Prosperity and Manufacturing Careers Internship Program to the newer Second Chance program, supporting students with disabilities, and the upskilling of current employees, the Aurora Regional Chamber and its many collaborative partners have established itself as a leader in providing solutions to a nationwide issue, Henning adds.

“I will be forever grateful for the team members, board members, volunteers, and community leaders that have been champions for the Aurora region with me,” Henning concludes. “The Chamber is a remarkable place to work. The region is a wonderful community in which to live. It is a perfect time for the Chamber to bring in fresh leadership. I look forward to following the continued impact that the Aurora Chamber accomplishes.”

Henning’s last day will be Friday, May 24, 2019.

Guzauskas states the board is currently working on the details of a transition plan with Henning and will begin a search in the near future.
